I'm being fostered in Sioux City, IA.
Hi there - my name is Bijou (which means "jewel"). My boxer angels said that I truly am a jewel, and that I deserve a wonderful life where I am spoiled and shown love and affection. My boxer angels got contacted about me and, specifically, that I was really in need of rescuing. I am eight (8) years old. For my entire 8 years, I was kept outside, chained to a tree with a heavy, 75 pound, rusted out chain (see the last picture, that was my former life). I was left to bear the elements. When rescued, I was covered in fleas, full of bacteria and worms, sick with kennel cough and completely denied of any love and companionship. When my rescuer came, I marched up the steep, muddy hill and I never once looked back. I jumped right into the car and into my travel kennel like I had been waiting for that day for years and years. I am a complete sweetheart. It took no time at all for me to embrace the love, petting and hugs I got from those that rescued me. I was taken straight to the vet where I got a full work up and a nice, long bath. I was full of hook worms and have been treated for those, and I am already feeling much better. I have also had all my shots updated. Because my prior owners never took me to the vet, I am heart worm positive, and I will be starting treatment for the heart worms very soon. My rescuer said she could literally feel my relief and gratitude as we pulled away from the plot of dirt and mud that I was forced to call home for 8 years. My spirit was so broken. I was so sad and defeated I would barely hold my head up to look at my rescuer. Now, a few short days later, I am already starting to feel hopeful again and to show my sweet little personality. I truly am a sweet soul. I am wonderful with people and am so excited to go up to anybody who will show me some love and affection. I have the cutest, most loving face. I am still (understandably) leery of other dogs, but I am ready to work on that and I'm confident that with time and patience, I will feel safe and secure and ready to make some furry friends. I would love to find a loving foster and/or forever family where I can be welcomed and loved while I go through my heart worm treatment. I am so excited about my new life, and I hope I can find a home that will welcome me in and show me what it means to be loved and treated like part of the family.
