Buddy is a feisty, spunky dachshund mix, about 5 years old. He was picked up as a stray by animal control, and on that day he had no function at all in his hind legs. A plea went out to ATDR, asking for help for this sweet guy. The kind shelter manager wanted to give him a chance, knowing he was not adoptable and his future was dim in the pound.
Initially we believed his was an old injury and recovery would be slow, if at all. But--after a couple of weeks on steroids and on crate rest, Buddy popped up and he has been going strong ever since. He was ataxic at first but is pretty steady on his feet now. He is still a little wobbly when he is tired, but he is gaining strength daily. He will need a special, knowledgeable adopter who fully understands post-spinal cord injury care. But, don't let that discourage you! He is a happy, active boy who will just need the routine back care protocol all dachshunds require. He is adept at using his ramp to access the big bed and the sofa. He is crate-trained.
Buddy has the most beautiful, expressive almond-shaped eyes that have that doxie-hypnotic-stare when he wants something. He is a snuggler, and loves nothing more than lap-sitting. He has rather terrier-esque ears. One ear is constantly at attention. This radar ear is just adorable! His busy little trot is adorable, as well.
This little guy is neutered, fully vetted, HW -, and ready to go. At 12 pounds, he is perfectly lap-sized.
