Please contact Family Dog Shelter for more information about this pet.
Felipe is an adorable lab/pit mix, but he wasn't always that way. When we found him running the streets in Tijuana, Mexico he was almost completely hairless. Since his arrival we've been treating his mange and his beautiful soft brown coat is growing in nicely.
Felipe is really sweet and he's eager to please, which makes him highly trainable. He is not a barker, but he is smart (which helps explain how he survived as a street dog). Somewhere along the way he has learned to trust people, which makes him a wonderful companion.
In other good news, he's a great runner and up for any chance to play, go on long hikes, or whatever you're up for. He can be dog-selective which means he doesn't like every dog he meets, but he is starting to improve and make many doggie friends. On a recent long hike he was friendly or simply not interested in other dogs that he encountered, so we know he is on the path of improvement!
Felipe will continue to blossom once he's part of a loving family's routine. He hasn't quite figured out that cars can take you to good places and has to be coaxed to climb on board. (This dog needs more happy car trips!) Once he's in a car though he's quiet and calm.
And the city streets can be a little scary for him (Bad memories of his street dog past, perhaps?). So while he walks with a loose leash in the park, he's more likely to tug on his leash when he's near traffic and noise. He'll probably do best with someone who's had some dog experience since he's still learning how we do things in this new foreign land.
Please give Felipe the home he's never had and a place where he feels loved. Fill out an application at www.ilovefamilydog.org to meet this handsome guy!
