Homer is an 9 yr. old Black Lab mix that, believe it or not, we have had since he was a pup. Homer is good looking and very lab like but he is considerably smaller than a full blood lab. He is more of a medium size than a large size. We have no explanation for why Homer has not been adopted other than the fact that he is black and mixed in breeding, two characteristics that make it hard for dogs to be adopted from shelters. Now Homer's age is against him in that most people want pups or young dogs. But, if we didn't believe in Homer as a wonderful animal and if we didn't believe that there is still a chance for him to have a loving home and family of is own for the rest of his life, we wouldn't put him on the website. Homer is as sweet and as easy and as loving as any dog out there. He is a dear soul. ANYONE loving lab types and not wanting a wild, young one will love Homer as a companion. He is very good with people and other dogs. Homer has not been around small children; we recommend that children be supervised with him so that they do not try to play rough without Homer having bonded first. He is actually a quiet, gentle dog and would love that kind of environment to live in. Also, because Homer has been at the shelter, he will need supervision in housetraining in a home. We do not anticipate this to be difficult. He is very mature minded and obedient; we recommend crating Homer at night and when he is home alone in the day to help with the process.
