Meet Maggie,or Maggie Lou, as she’s called by her foster dad. She was surrendered by her previous owner, who wanted her to have a family who could spend a lot of time with her. She turned three years old in May, is about 62 pounds and is a typical velcro dog. She is also spayed and up-to-date on all vaccinations. She is a classic black and tan, but photos do not do her justice. Maggie is crate- and house-trained and loves a ball. Really LOVES balls! She’s smart too, and for that reason, we think she would make a great working dog…SAR, agility, service work. She has off-the-charts drive and would likely make a great police K9. She was not socialized much in her former home and isn’t very dog friendly. She occasionally gets along with submissive males, but not females. She occasionally plays with a chocolate lab. She was raised with two kids, but doesn’t seem to be a huge fan, so we feel she’d be best in a home no children. We think, during the 12-hour days she typically spent crated in her former home, that she may have been teased by children. Her foster dad is working with her on manners, and she’s learning fast. Maggie, like most GSDs, is protective of her home, and has been a bit “snarky” when new people have visited her foster’s home; however, her foster dad is working diligently to socialize her with people. She has shown some interest in cats but will not chase if you correct her. Maggie loves fetch (duh!), running (double duh!), riding in the car and swimming at the beach. Maggie will do best with a strong, but loving alpha with GSD experience, and she will require LOTS of exercise and structure everyday as she is full of energy and requires attention. She will not do well in a crate for hours everyday so keep that in mind. If you are interested in making Maggie part of your family, please contact your adoption coordinator or complete an adoption application here if you are in our adoption territory (VA, NC or TN): www.southeastgermanshepherdrescue.org. Maggie is being fostered in Norfolk, VA.
