People are strange, when you’re a stranger…
Nema is an absolute perfect Maine Coon - one of the most beautiful cats you will ever see. If it weren’t for her slight neuroses, she’d be one of those cats people are scrambling to adopt – heck I could probably sell her to a breeder for thousands if she wasn’t spayed. Not that I would. Nema is hands down the single most “catlike” cat I have ever encountered. She is actually super super loving and sweet, but she had a tough beginning and so is reluctant to trust strangers and likes to give the false impression that she’s feral (so no one will think to adopt her). If you’re looking for a beautiful and loving cat who will be completely loyal to you – after a “breaking in” period - Nema is definitely your girl. Oh, and she gets along well with other cats and kittens, but probably isn’t the best choice for young children. You can see videos of Nema here: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8B3E660B3BDC244C
Here is a snapshot of the first week after you’ve adopted Nema:
The meeting: You come to my place to meet Nema, because Nema does not do adoption events. She’s a diva – she just doesn’t perform in public anymore! You’re sure she would like you if only she’d come out from under the futon. Oh well, you were warned that she is shy – you decide to take a chance and adopt her. Sucker!
Day 1: After leaving Nema in the bathroom for the night (to adjust to the new smells, etc of her new home in a smaller space), you open the door expecting to see her waiting patiently for breakfast, and find…nothing. You know you left her in the bathroom with the door closed, how is it that she isn’t here now? Oh wait, did the shower curtain just move? Sure enough, she’s in the bathtub wearing the shower curtain as a shroud.
Day 2: She’s still hiding under the shower curtain, but you decide to chance a light stroke to her head. When you first reach out, she makes a sad little trill and you almost feel sorry for her, then when she cowers under your hand you feel a strong sense of pity and love for this poor sad little creature. She lets you pat her on the head – even seems a little excited as her big fluffy Maine Coon tail flies back and forth in your face…she’s showing you her plumage – that’s got to be a good sign, right?
Day 3: Nema has finally moved out of the shower – and back into the cat carrier. That’s not so bad, because you can actually reach in and pet her in here and she seems to like it. In fact, she even purrs.
Day 4: Suddenly, Nema is out of the cat carrier and isn’t even under the shower curtain. She’s talking a lot – seemingly telling you it’s time to investigate the rest of the house. You let her out – and she promptly disappears to god knows where.
Day 5: You’re working on your computer when suddenly you hear a trilling chirp and a big ball of fur lands on top of the keyboard. Sure enough – Nema has decided it’s time to socialize! Just when you thought she’d crawled into someplace to die. She walks back and forth in front of you, her tail flying in your face, and you really have no choice but to succumb to her wishes. She purrs and trills as you pat her head and scratch her under the chin, and makes chirping noises as you stroke the fur down her back – until the second or third time, when she turns around and grabs your hand in her teeth…don’t worry, it’s a love bite, designed to remind you you’re still under assessment so don’t think you’re a shoe in, buddy!
The next 15-20 years: It’s a match made in heaven – Nema is your loyal girl, purring and trilling and begging for belly rubs…
5 days is not too long to wait for true love!
Nema is FIV and FeLV negative, fully vaccinated and dewormed and even microchipped. If you are looking for a very special girl who will give you lots of love...please consider Nema!
