Rudy is just Rudy! He was in a high-kill shelter and he looked so pitiful sitting in the huge kennel. But it didn’t take long for the ‘real’ Rudy to emerge! He grumbles … I swear he’s trying to talk. He gets very indignant if you speak sternly to him or fuss at him about anything. He wiggles and grins at you when you talk baby talk to him and tell him he’s a good boy. He grumbles at all the other foster dogs although he never has any issues with any of them. He doesn’t really ‘play’ with any of them, but he doesn’t really play with people either. Rudy is the pup who will sit beside you instead of on your lap. He doesn’t really like being picked up … he’s much happier if he can just follow you around … or have you follow him around.
Rudy is not a snuggly cuddly! But he IS a terrific little guy who deserves to live a happy life with a family who loves him for who he is – quirks and all. He is fine with adults who respect him and will love him with all his funny ways. He is fine with other dogs who can ignore his grumbling. He is fine with cats. He will bark fiercely at them as long as he’s inside and they’re outside. My guess is that face-to-face he would be afraid of them. He will NOT do well with children. He doesn’t like a lot of loud activity around him. Everyone needs to be respectful around him … if awakened suddenly or teased and taunted, he will snap. He does not like to feel threatened or backed in a corner and he will come out snarling. He simply needs love, care and respect.
If you think Rudy might be the perfect pup for you, please go to, click on Forms/Application and complete your adoption application online.
We are an all-volunteer group, so please be patient and understand that it takes an average of 7-14 days to process the applications including reference checks, follow-up questions and home visits. You can expedite the process by providing accurate email addresses for all your references. Time to make phone calls is limited and we often have 10 or more applications in process. We make every effort to move through them as quickly as possible.

When your application is approved, we will schedule a meet-and-greet to see if Rudy picks you too.
If it seems that the adoption will be a good match for all, there is an adoption fee, and an adoption contract to be signed.
Please feel free to email or call 434 841 0411 or 540 297 1590 if you have additional questions.
