During a thunderstorm, a man took cover at a Wal-Mart. As he stood waiting for the storm to pass, he witnessed a black SUV throw a puppy out of the moving car into the parking lot of the store. The man immediately went out to help the puppy and was able to get the license plate of the car. He took the puppy home and found her to be a loving, sweet girl. Unfortunately, he was leaving town the next day on business and asked a volunteer of Our Pal’s Place for assistance. Even though our mission is to save animals from death in county shelters, we also want to help people who are doing the right thing for the animals! We agreed to take Sunni and were amazed at how smart and loving this little girl was given all that she has experienced in her 6 months of life. A couple of months later we put Sunni into a home where she has flourished over the past two years. Sunni took her role in the family as protector more serious than what the family desired, however. Sunni began protecting from "intruders" including the kids that were coming over to play. Out of concern for the safety of the neighborhood kids, the family decided to return Sunni to O.P.P. Sunni is heartbroken to say the least. She has no idea what she did "wrong". This behavior can be modified when Sunni goes into her next home by working a specific protocol of making strangers "good" from the beginning. Other than wanting to protect her family, Sunni is a perfect little girl who merely aims to please. She will do well in an adult only home or with a family that has older kids. Sunni will be a loyal companion for someone who will be loyal to her in return.
